I’ve been slowly building my blogging résumé over the last year, and I’m proud to say it’s payed off. My job has allowed me to make contacts, and pick up freelance blogging, social media management and VA gigs. I learned so much in my first year of blogging, and I never thought it could have helped me at my ‘real’ job, but it changed my life! I’ve picked the top 5 things I’ve learned from this lovely little blog. Maybe you can learn a little from me too!
Wordpress (which is the platform I use) does this nifty thing where it notifies you about major milestones! Well low and behold, I’ve been blogging a whole damn year! I had toyed with the idea of doing a long sappy post again…but to be honest, I think I covered that in all my birthday and 5 year plan posts?! SO we’ll focus on something that I find a lot more exciting.
To blog or not to blog! What a silly question really…. I started blogging because my college graduation was looming on the horizon, and I could already feel my soul becoming lost and confused. (I actually covered this in a ‘why I blog’ post awhile back. Oh how much has changed.)I sat with a degree that I loved learning about, but that I wasn’t sure I wanted to work towards for the rest of my life. I knew I loved design, and writing, and deadlines. So I decided…I’ll start a blog…and this is what I’ve learned from that one little thought.
Being a lifestyle blog can be weird. Bloggers constantly tell you “you have to have a niche!” or “Post about whatever you heart tells you too!”. Then add in social media and it seems like your streams are all over the place. For the record I’m pro-blog all the topics, and you can find out why here. Every social media outlet is different, but Instagram is probably the most lifestyle-blogger friendly. You can capture this potential pretty easily with these tips!
I’m so close to my one year ‘blogiversary’ I can almost taste it! I’ve learned so much more than I thought I would during that time. Sometimes jumping into the blogging world can be scary, especially when there’s no perfect guide out there! I put together my top five mistakes, so that you can avoid them! (Plus a few ways I’ve fixed them!)
So, along with the large portion of the population, I made goals for the 2016 year involving fitness. I’m super excited to be doing an obstacle course run with my dad at the end of January. You can read more about this here. Along with that goal, I’m just generally looking to get in shape, and maybe participate in a bikini competition one day! But for now, I have a little update, and a list of my favorite fitness gear for the past couple months!
