Hey guys, gals, and everyone else!
Anyone else an oily girl? As in…an essential oils girl? If you’ve been with me for awhile you’ll remember my review on this nifty product. I was just a beginner when I posted that, but somehow I have found myself on the edge of jumping into a pool of essential oils! Okay, not really, but Alexander’s mom did open my eyes to the many uses of them. So I thought I would share! I should note I do not endorse using essential oils in any way to replace your medicine. You should always talk to a doctor about that sort of thing.
Now Alexander’s mom (there has to be a term like ‘mother in law’ but for girlfriends…help me out here folks) is a distributor for a company called Young Living Essential Oils. Essential oils have been around forever, and have a ton of uses. Young Living is unique in the fact that you can eat them! You’ll see why I like this in a couple bullet points. I don’t get anything from these links btw…well maybe some kudo points with his mom 😉
SO! Awesome things essential oils can help with! Please note none of these claims come from Young Living. They are just my personal experiences, and information after research!
They can help promote a healthy body
Essential oils have been used to treat bodily ailments for thousands of years. I was a little skeptical at first, but then I made a discovery. Whenever I’m stressed out I get a canker sore…on the back of my throat. They’re pretty painful and often last for a week or more. I read online that Peppermint oil can help with the pain and how long they last. I contacted Alexander’s mom and she recommended I drink/gargle peppermint water. To my amazement my sore was gone in three days. And I love Peppermint so I was pretty happy 😉
Essential oils have also been called the secret to youth. Egyptians are infamous for lathering this substance on their skin. Our skin naturally produces oils, and in modern times, we often overly strip our bodies of it. By applying your oil of choice you can help reduce acne, scarring and flaking. Another case of oils helping in skincare is this! In 1910 French chemist and scholar René-Maurice Gattefossé discovered the virtues of the essential oil of lavender. Gattefossé badly burned his hand, and applied Lavender to it afterwards. His hand healed with very little scarring. Read the longer version of this story here.
They can lift your mood!
Aromatherapy is as old as time. Smells interact with parts of your brain that are responsible for recalling memories. This explains why a whiff of roses or fresh laundry will take you back to your grandmother’s house as a child. Many people experiment with different blends to create the perfect ‘happiness’ scent.
They can make you a better student!
Peppermint oil has been shown to help students recall information during tests. Actually smelling/ingesting any oil during studying and then during a test boosts test scores. It is also said that Lavender increases brain alpha waves, which makes it easier to sleep! Combine those two things and you’ll have A’s across the board in no time.
They can enhance your spirituality
Essential oils span all religions and spiritual practices. In fact, Christians, Muslims and Druids are all infamous for using essential oils in their rituals. Many people believe that the aromatherapy and healing properties help in worships. The most famous tale of essential oils (at least in Western Christian cultures) is the deliverance of frankincense and myrrh to the newborn Jesus. BUT it’s best to poke around essential oils and find what really enlightens you, whatever spiritualness that may be!
