Self-Care Haul

Hey guys, gals, and everyone else!

We live in a world where sometimes ‘self-care’ can be thrown by the wayside or confused with being ‘high maintenance’. Now I will freely admit that I will often bach (back? I have no idea I’m not a chicken) Anyway, I am often surprised at the prices people are willing to pay for a little self spoiling. I love lush cosmetics, but I rarely buy them because sometimes a 15$ bath is too much! That being said, I saved a little and treated myself to a cosmetics, skin care, and soul searching book haul! So keep reading if you love Ulta Beauty like I do 😉

Big-Magic-#Girlboss

First off is a set of books! Now if you’re a female pretty much anywhere on YouTube or Instagram you’ve heard of each of these books. One of my 2016 resolutions was to read more, so I’m working on that here! I’ve actually already gone through #girlboss! It’s a super easy read outlining the life of the creator of NastyGal.com I would give it a 3.5/5 stars. It’s a super easy read, but a bit redundant. That being said, I certainly wanted to create my own empire after reading her anarchist to millionaire story!

I haven’t started Big Magic yet, but tons of people love it. It’s supposed to help you create a creative life and stop being afraid of failure! As a blogger and artist ( I paint occasionally!) I’m super excited to dig into this.

Sugar-Scrub-Salt-Scrub

I actually spotted these scrubs at Ulta on my way to the Freeman mask area. I bought one of those as well it’s just not pictured! Freeman is an awesome, inexpensive mask company that can be purchased at Ulta or Walmart! I love their charcoal and pineapple scrub masks!

Anyway, these were in the same isle and they intrigued me! First off they were only 7.99 and ended up 50% off, so that’s pretty awesome! The brand (Tree Hut) also has lotions and face masks! Since in AZ it’s already heating up, I wanted to scrub away my dry winter skin. I’m using the Sugar Scrub (on the right) and it’s awesome! The scent is beautiful and light, so it doesn’t give me a headache! I also love that they use a lot of natural products. Neither of these have coconut oil in them, as I’m allergic, but they do have a lot of pine nut oils-so watch out. Though you can always read the back to check before purchasing 🙂 I will definitely be checking out their other products!

Next up is my mini NYX Cosmetics Haul! I love that Ulta has high end and drugstore brands. NYX is probably one of my favorite brands, because they have everything! I picked up a pressed powder in Banana ( I swear its a light yellow). I’ve been using this on my under eyes and I love how it sets my concealer.

I also got their Matte Lipstick in Craze (the red swatch!) I love their matte lipsticks because they’re not super drying. This color is actually super close to their cult favorite lipstick ‘Alabama’, it’s just a bit darker. I love that it has a bit of a brown hue to it! Then, I picked up their Liquid Suede Lipstick in #04 Soft-Spoken. It’s a mauvey-nude color that’s just a bit darker than my natural lip color. I have couple colors of this formula and I love it! It doesn’t dry down completely matte, so it’s really comfortable.

Lastly, I picked up one of their new eyeliners! I picked up Vivid Blossom, which is a liquid liner in a lilac color! I love purple eyeliner for my greenish eyes, but I’ve never had a lavender one! Plus this is super super matte, which is awesome.

I also got my nails done ❤

Beauty-Blender-Dupe-It-Cosmetics-CC-Cream

I also picked up a supposed Beauty Blender dupe! I’ve watched many a YouTube Makeup Guru that says this is pretty dang close. And at $7 dollars, I’m willing to try it! To go with it I picked up the IT Cosmetics CC cream. I was actually searching for the next product when the lovely sales associate suggested I try this! I love that it has 50 SPF in it! I got the color ‘Fair’, which is too dark for me right now. You may all laugh.

BUT I am pretty lucky to have a genetic makeup that allows me to get a tan in the summer, so I’ll be using this more often in a month or so! It does have a pretty thick consistency which I’m a little iffy on. I think if I lived somewhere humid that it wouldn’t feel very good. I can just imagine it sliding off my face! Blehck. But here is super dry AZ it seems to be an awesome product for when I’ll be outside and don’t want to put a ton of products on my face!

Mario-Badescu-Lightening-Kit

Mario-Badescu-Lightening-Kit-Complete

I have tried this kit out for about two weeks now, and I can honestly say I’ve never loved a skin care item this much before. And I’ve tried everything…proactive, accutane, you name it! Check out my post on my Accutane experience here. So while my skin is horrible anymore, it could be better. I asked my friend Melissa from blissandbirds.com what she recommended for my pit scars (from my cystic acne days). She’s in esthetician school and recommended I look at a Vitamin C serum.

I poked around the Ulta website and stumbled on to this kit. Not only does it have a serum, but it has a face mask, a lotion (it looks like a toner but isn’t), a heavy duty lotion, and a cleanser! I was super scared it would dry me out, but it didn’t! Actually, even after thee first use my skin was amazing! I highly highly recommend this product.

I know this one was a long haul guys so thanks for sticking with it! Sometimes you just got to treat yourself-both mind and body! What beauty products have you been loving lately? Let me know down below!

Stay Sunny ❤

Hi Mariah! Enjoying reading your posts… I hear you on the skin care… I had to go through not one but TWO courses of accutane too and it just about killed me, seriously, it was a miserable experience… has not “cured” me but made it a lot better… one thing that sucks majorly is as you get older (I’m 49) you get to deal with all the skin problems at once — I deal with oily and dry skin on different parts of my face and body, brown spots from living in FL for decades and being as fair as you are (even with vigilant sunscreen use), little tiny wrinkles and fine lines beginning to pop up here and there, AND still have issues with acne. Oh, and graying hair. NOT FAIR! Anyways, I’m still a work in progress, but NOTHING has helped my skin as much as going to all kinds of Korean products about two years ago… seriously, that stuff is magic… weird icky sounding ingredients (snail slime, pig collagen, donkey milk) but the Koreans are at least ten years ahead of Europe and America on skin care… check it out! Look forward to your blog coming out… Lorraine

Accutane is super tough, but it does do it’s job…just with some issues. I was honestly thinking of trying a second round until I found the Mario Badescu stuff! I actually just found the cutest moisturizer I was going to order and it’s from Korea! It’s shaped like a snail and has snail slime stuff in it lol. I don’t care how weird ingredients sound…’specially if they’re natural!

      Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Ah, I can totally relate to the “fair” being too dark! I am in the same boat right now in Northeast Ohio! I am just now getting more into the fun skincare products, as I have suffered from acne most of my life because of PCOS. Its finally dying down, and I am more free to experiment and have fun. Those scrubs look amazing. Its so dry here right now and my skin is totally taking a beating!

I am going to pick up the books! You’re brave to try so many new beauty products at once! I’m very loyal when I found something I love, and get anxious trying new stuff, especially skin care. I break out with everything! I’m going to check out your accutane post, too. It’s been 16 years since I took it, but it changed my life!

I know they made tiny beauty blenders just for concealer! If you’ve got a steady hand I don’t see why you couldn’t use the Real Technique one for under the eyes though! 🙂 Let me know how it goes!

I like the Tree Hut scrubs. I decided to start making my own though.

I am not a huge make up person so I have to find other things to buy for self care.

I do try to take a few minutes to myself a day.

Birthdays are the best time for makeup hauls! I know Sephora does a birthday gift, but I’m not sure about Ulta! I would check and see!
