Simon Stylez Hair & Makeup Interview!

Hey guys, gals, and everyone else!

Y’all ready for this?! *na nanana* Anyway. Jacob Hamilton is a local Phoenix talent that is making a name for himself in the hair and makeup industry. Hamilton and I actually went to high school together! (Go Eagles!) When I saw his talent, and how well he handled his up and coming fame, I knew I had to interview him!

1. So let’s hear the story! How did you get into hairstyling and where did this passion come from?

I started out at a very young age being very into the arts; I did lots of theatre, art and vocal activities. At about 6 years old, my Aunt Amy colored my hair red for the first time (without my mom knowing). Unfortunately, when I got home, my mom told me I was too young, and took me to get my hair buzzed off. After a few days of crying and whining (much like I still do today), she realized how much I had loved it. So, she went to the store and bought me a new box of color. She subsequently colored my sister’s and my hair red. From then on, I experimented with new cuts and colors on myself, my family and even my friends; I was hooked. As I got older, I started designing the hair and makeup for musical theatre in NY, and then in AZ. It wasn’t until I was applying for thousands of dollars in loans for college, when I realized that hair and makeup were my true passions in life. The next day, I withdrew from college and applied for beauty school.

Talk about inspiring eh?

2. How does it feel to be an up and coming face for the Phoenix LGBTQIA community?

It’s hard for me to see myself as someone who represents anything but me. However, I do feel a familial bond with the LGBTQIA community. It wasn’t until I “came out” that I realized how free we truly are. Now, I just try to show that idea to others by leading by example; whether it be with my personality, my love, or my ambition. I just want people to know that they are loved, free and can achieve anything, if they allow themselves.

3. Where do you find your day to day inspiration?

My day to day inspiration comes from a few different places. First and foremost: Mommy and Dady-O (Renee and Pete). Their love and acceptance of everyone around them is always in the back of my mind. Second: My best friend, Brittany Anne. She makes me feel exhausted just watching her accomplish what she does. Third: my Momma Marcie, my AZ mom – watching her persevere through her illness; she gives me the strength to tackle anything. Finally, all of my family and friends’ support. They are the reason I get out of bed, and the reason I continue to produce my art.

4. What’s a current hair trend that you hate?

Oh goodness… I have to say, I’m not a HUGE fan of the half-up/half-down top knot… BUT if you can rock it, the gurrl you betta WERQ!

6. I know you’re doing a different Halloween makeup look everyday of October right now-Where do you come up with the ideas?

So many of my friends and family, honestly. I was able to get together about 12 for myself. But they’re the ones who came up with the rest!

Let’s take a look at some shall we?! Oh we shall….
